Peer Review Process

Peer Review Process

The peer review process is central to ensuring the quality and academic integrity of the articles published in JTERA (Jurnal Teknologi dan Rekayasa). Our journal follows a double-blind peer review model, where both authors and reviewers are anonymized to maintain objectivity and fairness. The entire process is designed to ensure that only high-quality research is published and that all manuscripts are evaluated based on their scientific merit and relevance to the engineering and technology fields.

1. Manuscript Submission

Authors must submit their manuscripts through the JTERA online submission system (OJS). The manuscript should be prepared according to the journal’s formatting guidelines and template. Once submitted, the manuscript undergoes an initial screening by the editorial team to check for compliance with the journal's scope and formatting requirements.

2. Initial Evaluation by Editors

Upon submission, the Editor-in-Chief and the editorial team conduct an initial evaluation to determine whether the manuscript fits the journal’s scope (Engineering and Technology) and meets basic quality standards such as originality, clarity, and technical relevance. If the manuscript passes this evaluation, it is sent for peer review. If deemed unsuitable, authors will be informed, and the manuscript may be rejected at this stage.

3. Peer Review Process

Once the manuscript passes the initial evaluation, it is assigned to at least two independent reviewers who are experts in the specific subject matter.

  • Anonymity: The process is double-blind; authors and reviewers remain anonymous to each other throughout.

  • Assessment: Reviewers assess scientific quality, novelty, methodology, and relevance to the field.

  • Feedback: Reviewers provide detailed suggestions and recommend whether the manuscript should be accepted, revised, or rejected.

  • Timeline: The peer review process typically takes between 3 to 6 weeks, depending on reviewer availability.

4. Decision Making

Based on the feedback from the peer reviewers, the Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision. Possible outcomes include:

  • Accept without changes: The manuscript is accepted for publication as is.

  • Minor revisions: The manuscript requires small adjustments before final acceptance.

  • Major revisions: The manuscript requires significant changes and may undergo a second round of review after resubmission.

  • Reject: The manuscript is rejected and will not be published in JTERA.

5. Communication with Authors

Authors will be notified of the decision through the OJS submission system. If revisions are required, authors will receive detailed comments to guide the revision process. Authors are expected to address the reviewers' comments carefully. In case of rejection, constructive feedback will be provided for future improvement.

6. Confidentiality and Ethics

All parties (authors, reviewers, and editors) must maintain strict confidentiality. Manuscripts are not shared outside the review process. Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest and refrain from using unpublished information for personal gain. Authors must adhere to ethical research practices and avoid plagiarism (JTERA uses Turnitin for similarity checks).

7. Final Publication Decision

Once the revised manuscript is approved, the article is prepared for layout and typesetting. Upon final acceptance, the article is assigned a DOI and made available online in the upcoming issue of JTERA.

8. Post-Publication Review

JTERA follows ethical guidelines regarding post-publication corrections. If substantial errors are identified after publication, a correction or retraction may be issued following a thorough investigation by the Editorial Board.
